Asia is forever heavy with jubilations, South East Asia looks to have the pick of the crowd. As the name evokes Thai Lanterns are from Thailand and are today contacting a far bigger audience as they increase popularity at UK events. One Such Festival by the name of Yee Peng follows the Buddhist Calendar and translates to the twelfth lunar month. November is when this comes about if your looking on a Western calendar. Loy Krathong is what you will pick up it referred to if you happen to be in some other part of Thailand. The Thai people follow this religious festival and the traditions it implies. Liberating the ‘Khom Loy’ or ‘Thai Lanterns’ is my most treasured part of the event. It is truly charming to watch the sky alight with these shining orbs. Thai people trust that the taking off lantern is accompanied by any woes. The light is said to steer people to a bright and fulfilled living. This fun event entices in even westerners although im not sure if they take it as gravely or just enjoy partaking in the festivities. The Thai Lanterns are biodegradable and are manufactured from Rice Paper and Bamboo for structure. Flight time is about 12 min and the Lanterns are well-known to reach upward of 900 ft!Popularity has been on the rise (excuse the pun) and has even found the Royal Thai Air Force alter their air activity and make cautionary to the airport to be cautious of prospective perils should a lantern get stuck in a aeroplane turbine.
